Calling all foodies! Grab your napkins – Rock’n Ribfest ribbers are coming to town.

Napkins, wet wipes and bibs – that’s all the equipment you’ll need to sample the food specialties by some of the country’s best barbequers.  The Rotary Club of Nashua West presents its tenth annual Rock’n Ribfest June 15 to June 17, 2012 at the Anheuser-Busch facility, 221 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack, NH.  Barbeque experts will be gearing up their smokers and grills for two days of serious grilling competition.  Attendees can vote for their favorites and name “People’s Choice” champions.

The barbeque contestants, affectionately called “ribbers” will be arriving from all over North America and include Aussome Aussie from Australia (via Pennsylvania), Bugaboo Creek Steak House (and Ribs) of New Hampshire, Rasta Joe’s Barbecue from Indiana, Smoken Dude’s Smokehouse from Pennsylvania, Gator BBQ from Canada, Jack’s Down Home BBQ from Pennsylvania, Big Moe’s M&M Barbeque and Firefly’s Bodacious Bar-B-Que of Massachusetts, and New Hampshire favorite, T-Roy’s Barbecue. The event promises to be a rib lover’s paradise offering the chance to sample countless varieties of finger-lickin’ recipes.

The two-day barbequing competition is sponsored by the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) and the New England Barbeque Society (NEBS).  Beginning Saturday morning, June 16, the NEBS Grilling Contest will judge burgers, pizza, sausages and dessert specialty categories.  Sunday, June 17, the KCBS judges will crown the Grand Champion and Reserve Champion for barbeque categories in chicken, pork ribs, port butt/shoulder and beef brisket. The winner of the NEBS competition will be qualified to enter national level competitions such as the Jack Daniels (“the Jack”) competition held in Lynchburg, TN.  Vendors and contestants can download registration forms or visit the Rock’n Ribfest website for details.

This year’s offerings will include half-rack and whole racks of ribs, pulled pork sandwiches, and barbecued chicken. Sample some of the best ribs and barbecue that New England has to offer and rate the rib vendors who will be vying for the title of the event’s “Best Ribs.”

For those who still have a hankering for more traditional fare, there’s a full line up of traditional festival food items including roasted corn, fried clams, apple crisp and even more traditional fare like hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken tenders, french fries, fried dough, pizza, and ice cream provided by Bruster’s Ice Cream.

Tickets are $7 online until June 10 and will also be available at the gate. Children age eight and under are free. Sunday, June 17 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. is Military Appreciation Day.  Active duty, active reserve, ready reserve service member or National Guardsman and up to four family members will receive free admission to the festival. The military personnel will simply need to show a Department of Defense photo ID. The Military Appreciation Day is sponsored by Anheuser-Busch and the Rotary Club of Nashua West.

This is Rotary Club of Nashua West’s largest annual fundraiser. Net proceeds will benefit more than 40 local nonprofit organizations.
